
Houston Begins Spring Season on Sunday

Cougars tee off at Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship in three-day tournament
NEW ORLEANS – The University of Houston Women's Golf program opens its spring season when it tees off at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship, beginning Sunday morning at English Turn Country Club.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament begins with an 9 a.m., split-start, Sunday, on the 6,336-yard, par-73 course. The tournament continues with 18 holes each day with the Final Round beginning with an 8 a.m., shotgun start Tuesday.
Houston, which is ranked No. 23 by Golfstat, opened the fall season by winning the Mason Rudolph Championship at Vanderbilt Legends Club on Sept. 20-22, 2019, and closed the fall with a fourth-place showing at their own White Sands Invitational in the Bahamas in late October.

THE FIELD
Houston will compete against 14 other teams during the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship.
The field includes Colorado State, No. 47 Denver, No. 10 Florida, Iowa, No. 32 Miami (Fla.), No. 13 Michigan State, NC State, North Texas, SMU, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Tulane, Tulsa and UAB.
THE LINEUP
Under the leadership of three-time American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Gerrod Chadwell, Houston will be represented by freshman Karen Fredgaard, sophomore Maria Jose Martinez, junior Ariana Saenz and seniors Amanda Elich and Brooke McDougald.
Sophomore Annie Kim will compete as an individual
Fredgaard leads the Cougars with a 70.33 scoring average and nine rounds of par or better. In her first collegiate semester, the Asserbo, Denmark, native earned four Top-25 finishes with three Top-10 showings, including a second-place finish at the White Sands Invitational in late October.
Fredgaard was recently invited to compete at the Augusta National Women's Amateur, set for early April in Augusta, Ga. She became the second Cougar to compete at this prestigious event in as many years, joining All-American and two-time American Athletic Conference Player of the Year Leonie Harm.

For Sunday's First Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from NC State and Colorado State

Following the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship, Houston plays host to the ICON Invitational on Feb. 24-25 on the Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club.
From there, the Cougars head west to compete at the Clover Cup on March 13-15 at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.
