Cougars tabbed fifth nationally, tops in AAC
HOUSTON – Houston Baseball's crop of 12 junior college signees has been recognized as the nation's No. 5 class and tops in The American Athletic Conference according to Perfect Game's final "2020 JUCO to Division I" rankings, the publication announced Wednesday.
The Cougars join (1) Texas Tech, (2) Arkansas, (3) Oklahoma and (4) Texas A&M in the top five. The remaining top-10 programs are (6) Washington, (7) Charlotte, (8) Miami (FL), (9) Kentucky and (10) South Carolina.
Houston's class includes sophomore Brandon Uhse, sophomore Josh Brown, sophomore Jaycob Deese, sophomore Ben Sears, sophomore Hayden Winters, sophomore Leyton Pinckney, sophomore Cameron Prayer, sophomore Blake Schultz, sophomore Adam Becker, redshirt sophomore Cole Turney, redshirt sophomore Maddux Miller and sophomore Derek Abeln.
The unit, which was tabbed the nation's top four-year JUCO signing class by The JBB in late September, consists of six pitchers, four outfielders, one catcher and one infielder.
Houston boasts five conference titles since 2014, a mark that ranks second in Texas and eighth nationally. The program has paced The American in conference wins (84) and NCAA Tournament appearances (4) in that timeframe. Houston is one of seven schools nationally with at least 245 victories and five conference titles in that span.
