HOUSTON – Logan Vargas and Julio Rios-Brache recently signed National Letters of Intent and will compete for the Cougars during the 2021-22 season, Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke announced Monday.
After award-winning high school and junior careers, both student-athletes will play as freshmen for the Cougars.

Rios Brache comes to Houston from Spring Creek Academy with an impressive resume.
"Julio is a very accomplished player on the junior level. We have been fortunate to watch his development through the years," Dismuke said. "He has been on our radar and continued to develop for a long time."
Rios Brache earned back-to-back third-place finishes at the Lone Star Classic and Nike Junior Camps Spring Showcase on the NTGPA All-American Tour and finished second at the Rangers Junior Open with sub-par rounds of 70-71.
Rios-Brache earned a sixth-place finish at the Lonestar Boys Invitational with a 70 in the Second Round and opened the North Texas Classic with a 69 on the way to a sixth-place finish.
He finished second at the Caribbean Amateur Junior Championship, shooting a 71 in the Final Round, and closed the Taylormade Junior Open with a 68 to finish fifth. Rios-Brache shot 70-71 over the final two rounds of the Dominican Junior Open to finish second.

ABOUT LOGAN VARGAS
Vargas has enjoyed an award-winning career for Head Coach Dan McDonald at Frenship High School in Lubbock, Texas.
"Logan is a Texas player who has consistently been one of the top players in the state since he was 12 years old," Dismuke said. "We have watched his progress for the last 4-5 years. He has been one of the more powerful and dynamic players in the state."
As a senior during the 2020-21 season, Vargas opened the year with score of 66-70 to lead the Tigers to their first team title at the Bill Wallace Memorial Tournament at Diamondback Golf Club in Abilene, Texas.
With a score of 146, he led Frenship HS to their third straight team title at The 36 at Hillcrest Tournament.
In October, Vargas tied for second at the Westrock Coffee Junior Championship after shooting 70-69. He tied for 10th at the Callaway Golf Texas Junior Open in June 2020 with a score of 216, thanks to an Second-Round 69.
He led the Tigers to three consecutive District 2-6A championships before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the remainder of the 2020 spring season.
