Porter Tabbed Campbell Trophy Semifinalist

Senior running back honored entering season
HOUSTON – Houston running back Kyle Porter has been named a semifinalist for the 2020 William V. Campbell Trophy, presented annually to college football's premier student-athlete, the National Football Foundation announced Thursday.
Porter, a senior from Katy, Texas, is among a record 199 semifinalists. A season ago, he played in 11 games, making nine starts while leading the Cougars with 615 rushing yards. Porter also added 13 receptions for 128 yards and a touchdown.
Porter graduated in three years at the University of Texas and is in the second year of his master's program at Houston. The team captain has been involved in Houston's student-athlete equality march and voter registration initiatives.
Candidates for the award must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of playing eligibility, have at least a 3.2 GPA, have outstanding football ability as a first-team player or significant contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.
The National Football Foundation will announce 12-to-14 finalists in November, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2020 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class. The winner, announced later in the year, will have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000 and receive his own 25-pound-bronze version of the iconic statue.
