Four Cougars to compete in Doha
HOUSTON – Four Houston Track & Field alums will hit the international stage this week at the 2019 IAAF World Championships taking place in Doha, Qatar from Sept. 27-Oct. 6 at the Khalifa International Stadium.
Â
The Cougars will be represented by Cougar alum Amere Lattin, Obi Igbokwe, Trumaine Jefferson and Mario Burke at the 2019 World Championships. Houston is tied with Kansas and Florida for the most athletes from their 2019 roster competing at the event. Lattin, Igbokwe and Jefferson will suit up for Team USA, while Burke represents the Barbados.
Â
Lattin will look to have continued success at the professional level after qualifying for the World Championships by way of third-place finish at the 2019 USATF Outdoor Championships in the 400-meter hurdles and will compete in the same event.
Â
Igbokwe notched a fourth-place finish in the Diamond League Final of the 400-meter dash and was tabbed for the mixed 4x400-meter relay pool.
Â
Jefferson looks to build off of his second-place finish at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships and third-place finish at the 2019 USATF Outdoor Championships in the long jump.
Â
Three-time Barbados National Champion Burke will represent his home country at the meet after coming off a fourth-place finish at the NACAC Championships, along with appearances at both the Pan-American Championships and London Diamond League.
