FRANKLIN, Tenn. – University of Houston freshman Karen Fredgaard posted her second straight sub-par score to lead the Cougars during the Second Round of the Mason Rudolph Championships on Saturday afternoon at Vanderbilt Legends Club.
Competing in her first collegiate event on the 6,430-yard, par-72 North Course, Fredgaard sank birdie on her third hole of the day and added another birdie to open her second nine on the par-4 10th hole. The Asserbo, Denmark native finished the second day at 142 to stand in fifth.
With her 71 in Friday's First Round, Fredgaard set a school record for low round by a student-athlete in her Houston debut.
With a team score of 295 on Saturday, the Cougars slipped to sixth in the team standings with a two-day total of 582.
Charlotte and host Vanderbilt were tied for the team lead at 575, three strokes ahead of Clemson. North Carolina (580) and Auburn (581) completed the Top-Five leaders with Mississippi State (585), Louisville (589), UCF (591) and Mercer (595) rounded out the Top 10.
Sophomores and All-American Athletic Conference selections Hannah Screen and Maria Jose Martinez finished the Second Round in a tie for sixth at 143.
Competing in their first events as Cougars, sophomore Annie Kim was tied for 60th at 154, while senior Brooke McDougald stood in 78th at 160. Junior Ariana Saenz, who was competing as an individual, was tied for 53rd at 152.
Charlotte's Ashley Fowler held the individual lead at 7-under 137, while defending champion Abbey Carlson (Vanderbilt) was in second at 140. Northwestern's Brooke Riley finished in third at 140 with UCF's Tunrada Piddon in fourth at 141.

FINAL-ROUND PAIRINGS
For Sunday's Final Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from North Carolina and Auburn off No. 1, beginning at 9:20 a.m., off No. 1.
McDougald begins the day for Houston at 9:20 a.m., with Kim (9:30 a.m.), Martinez (9:40 a.m.), Screen (9:50 a.m.) and Fredgaard (10 a.m.) following. Saenz will start off No. 10 at 9:45 a.m., Sunday.
