Houston sends six to Lima, Peru for games
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field program will send six athletes to the 2019 Pan American games in Lima, Peru. Track & Field events will be taking place Aug. 6-11 at the Athletics Stadium.

The Cougars will be represented by Amere Lattin, Trumaine Jefferson, Mario Burke, Chris Carter, Brianne Bethel and Tristan Evelyn at the meet, while Assistant Coach Carl Lewis will be in attendance at the games as the Guest of Honor.

Lattin and Jefferson are coming off stellar performances at the USATF Championships where both of the Cougar alum secured spots on the Team USA roster for the IAAF World Championships in Doha. Lattin notched a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles after running a lifetime best 48.66 winning his heat in both the opening and semifinal rounds. Jefferson posted a third-place finish in Des Moines, with a leap of 26-3 Âľ (8.02) on his fourth attempt. Chris Carter is fresh off an appearance at the USATF Championships where he advanced to the final of the Triple Jump, posting a sixth-place finish with a leap of 54-11 ÂĽ on his third attempt.

Both Burke and Evelyn will be representing the Barbados when they travel to Peru after closing out the Barbados National Championships with a pair of top-five finishes in the 100-meter dash. Burke won his third 100-meter dash title and Evelyn turned in a second-place finish in the event on the women's side. At the North American Central American Championships (NACAC) Burke and Evelyn finishing third and fourth in the 100-meter, respectively.

Bethel closed out a stellar indoor season for the Cougars, helping the Houston women earn an indoor conference title while taking home two first-place finishes and second-place finish at the conference meet. Bethel advanced to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships where she earned Second Team All-American honors.
