Houston Opens Season at Aggie Opener

Cougars head to College Station to begin 2019 campaign
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men's and Women's Cross Country teams will begin the 2019 season when both squads travel to College Station, Texas for the Aggie Opener at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course.

ABOUT THE AGGIE OPENER
For the second straight season the Cougars will open their season at the Aggie Opener. The Cougars will be joined in College Station by St. Thomas and Texas Southern. The women's 4.1K race is set to begin at 6:45 p.m. and will be immediately followed by the men's race at 7:15 p.m.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
The women's race will feature debuts by Houston newcomers; Darby Gaunt, Claire Meyer, Mariana Rodriguez, Camille Harris and Sondos Moursy.
Megan DeRouen will be the lone returner on the women's side. DeRouen posted a 33rd-place finish at the Aggie Opener last season with a collegiate-best time of 16:15.7, to go along with three other personal best during the 2018 slate.
On the men's side Alan Elbana, Brandon Seagraves and Jaime Vega will hit the course donning red and white for the first time. Tyler Keranen will make his cross country debut for the Cougars alongside Christian Gilmore who competed during the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons for the Cougars posting a first-place finish in the 800-meter run at the 2019 American Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Cameron Laverty looks to have another successful day at the Aggie Opener after posting an 19th-place finish at the event last season. Isaac Pearce will also be competing for the Cougars for the first time since the 2016 season.
