Junior tees off Monday morning at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club
VILLAGE of PINEHURST, N.C. – University of Houston Men's Golf junior Luke Long will tee off in the U.S. Amateur Championship, beginning Monday at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club.
Long begins play at 11:30 a.m. (CDT) off No. 1 on Course No. 2. He will compete in a group with Etienne Brault (Canada) and Spencer Ball (USA). On Tuesday, Long will compete in the same group off No. 9 on Course No. 4, starting at 6:15 a.m. (CDT).
Long earned his place at the nation's premier amateur event after posting a 3-under 141 to tie for top honors in a qualifier on the Founders Course at Chenal Country Club in Little Rock, Ark., in June.
He is one of 312 competitors at the 2019 U.S. Amateur Championship. All players will compete in 36 holes of stroke play with the top 64 advancing to match play, beginning Wednesday.
Long sat out the 2018-19 season as a redshirt with the Cougars after transferring from Chattanooga. As a sophomore at Chattanooga in 2017-18, he competed in 11 events and posted three Top-10 finishes, including a fourth-place showing at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate during the fall season.
Long will become the first Cougars to compete at the U.S. Amateur Championship since lettermen Michael Perras and Pryce Beshoory in 2017 in California.
