Harm Named The American’s Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Mario Burke (Men’s Outdoor Track & Field), Savannah Heebner (Softball), Peyton Kondis (Women’s Swimming & Diving) recognized as Scholar-Athletes of the Year in their respective sports
HOUSTON – University of Houston Women's Golfer Leonie Harm was honored as the American Athletic Conference's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Tuesday and was one of four Cougars to receive that accolade in their respective sports.
Harm also was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year in Women's Golf and received a total of $4,000 in scholarships. She, along with ECU pitcher and Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Jake Agnos, were selected from a group of 23 individual sport Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
Sprinter Mario Burke (Men's Outdoor Track & Field), pitcher Savannah Heebner (Softball) and swimmer Peyton Kondis (Women's Swimming & Diving) were recognized as the league's Scholar-Athletes of the Year in their respective sports with each receiving a $2,000 scholarship for their academic achievements.
With four sport Scholar-Athletes in 2018-19, Houston tied with Memphis and Tulsa for the most in the league.

ABOUT LEONIE HARM
Harm posted a 3.60 GPA while majoring in biology/biochemistry. Earlier this week, she was named an All-American Scholar by the Women's Golf Coaches Association for the third straight season.
In competition, she earned All-America honors by the Women's Golf Coaches Association and Golfweek.
The Gerlingen, Germany, native posted a team-best 72.20 scoring average to set a school single-season record and owns the Top-Three single-season performances in that category in school history.
She became the first Cougar in program history to win multiple tournaments in a single season and finished as the Cougars' leader with four tournament crowns during her career.
Harm was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year for the second straight season and became the second student-athlete in program history to compete in four NCAA Regionals during her career.
She competed at the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur in April, joining 72 amateur athletes at that prestigious event.

ABOUT SAVANNAH HEEBNER
With her name written throughout the records book, Heebner finished her career as one of the most decorated student-athletes in Houston Softball history.
Prior to becoming the first four-time All-American Athletic Conference First-Team selection in program history, Heebner's 2018 campaign saw her emerge as the league's Co-Pitcher of the Year. That same season, she became only the fifth player in program history to receive an All-American accolade, earning NFCA All-America Second-Team honors.
Her 26 wins and 1.15 ERA that year not only rank third all-time at Houston in a single-season but also led The American as well.
Combined with her on-field success, Heebner exemplified what it meant to be a student-athlete, garnering a pair of NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors as well as being named to The American All-Academic Team three times in her career.
Heebner earned her degree with honors in organizational leadership and supervision and now competes for in the NPF for the Chicago Bandits, which drafted her with the No. 24 overall pick.

ABOUT MARIO BURKE
Over four years, Burke left his mark on the Houston Track & Field program. The seven-time All-American, two-time NCAA Champion in the 4x100-meter relay and 15-time All-American Athletic Conference selection will go down as one of the most prolific sprinters in both program and conference history.
Burke is a three-time Barbados national champion in the 100-meter and holds conference titles in the 60-meter dash, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay. The sprinter has made history at the University of Houston, holding the program records in the 4x100-meter relay.
During the 2018-19 season, Burke turned in one of the best seasons of his career, with a second-place finish in the 60-meter at the NCAA Indoor Championships and a pair of top-four finishes in the 100-meter and 200-meter at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, helping Houston to its second straight third-place finish at the meet.
Academically, Burke is a four-time American All-Academic team honoree and leaves Houston with a bachelor's degree in management.

ABOUT PEYTON KONDIS
In three seasons, Kondis proved to be a valuable asset to the three-time American Athletic Conference Champion Houston Swimming & Diving team. The two-time team captain, six-time conference champion and two-time NCAA Championships qualifier has excelled both athletically and academically for the Cougars.
Kondis holds program records in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard medley relay to go with a top-10 time in program history in the 200-yard individual medley.
Academically, the Cougar standout is a two-time Arthur Ashe Jr. Scholar-Athlete, CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and three-time CSCAA Scholar-Athlete. Kondis has excelled and led by example, maintaining a 4.0 grade point average during each semester of her college career as she works toward her bachelor's degree in kinesiology.
