Jefferson Takes Third at USATF Championships

Cougar alum secures spot on USATF roster for IAAF World Championships in Doha
Des Moines, IOWA – Houston Track & Field alum Trumaine Jefferson earned a third-place finish in the long jump at the 2019 USATF Outdoor Championships, earning a spot on the USATF roster for the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

For the second time in as many days, the Houston Track & Field program will celebrate the success of a former athlete as Jefferson becomes the fifth Cougar in the last three seasons to cement a roster spot on the USATF team. Jefferson posted a leap of 26-3 ¾ (8.02m) on his fourth attempt to improve to third-place overall in the event.

Jefferson becomes the fifth Cougar to advance to the IAAF World Championships in the last three seasons joining former Cougars Elijah Hall, Mario Burke, Amere Lattin and Kahmari Montgomery. The Houston alum also automatically qualifies for the Team USA roster at the 2019 Europe vs. USA Match (Sept. 9-10; Minsk, Belarus) and the 2019 Thorpe Cup (Sept. 14-15; Bernhausen, Germany).

Jefferson will join teammate Amere Lattin on Team USA at the IAAF World Championships later this year, after Lattin finished third in the 400-meter hurdles at the USATF Outdoor Championships on Saturday evening. Full results can be found HERE.
