Houston Alums to Compete at USATF Championships

Seven Cougars to compete at USATF Outdoor Championships
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field program will be well represented at the 2019 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships taking place July 25-28 at the historic Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
Seven Cougar alum will take to the Blue Oval this week for the 2019 USATF Outdoor Championships. The meet will serve as a selection meet for Team USA at the 2019 Europe vs. USA Match (Sept. 9-10; Minsk, Belarus), 2019 Thorpe Cup (Sept. 14-15; Bernhausen, Germany) and the 2019 IAAF World Championships (Sept. 27-Oct. 6; Doha, Qatar).
Houston will open action on Thursday at 5:05 p.m. CT when Cameron Burrell competes in the First Round of the 100-meter dash, followed by Amere Lattin at 5:57 p.m. in the opening round of the 400-meter hurdles.
Reigning NCAA Champion and USATF National Champion, Kahmari Montgomery will look to defend his title in the 400-meter dash alongside teammate Obi Igbokwe when the duo hits the track at 7:37 p.m.
Houston All-American Brian Barraza will compete in the opening round of the 3,000-meter Steeplechase that is set to begin at 8:21 p.m.
In the field, Chris Carter will kick off day two of the Championships as he competes in the Triple Jump that is slated for 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The long jump will be highlighted by Houston alum Trumaine Jefferson who just capped off a first-place finish in the event in Padova, Italy and a runner-up finish at the 2019 NCAA Championships. Jefferson will compete on Sunday at 6 p.m.
The meet will be televised on NBC Sports Gold, NBC Sports Network and NBC. The full competition and broadcast schedule can be found HERE.
