
Houston’s Game with UConn Halted

Game paused in fifth inning due to weather; will resume on Friday
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team had its opening-round contest with UConn at the American Athletic Conference Championship halted on Thursday. The game was paused in the top of the fifth inning with the Cougars holding a 3-2 lead and will resume on Friday at 1 p.m.
Sophomore infielder Aspen Howie has driven in a pair of runs so far, with senior first baseman Savannah Heebner recording the other. In the circle, senior pitcher Presley Bell has surrendered a pair of runs across her four and two-thirds innings pitched, allowing just one walk in the process.
KEY INNINGS
1st | The Huskies wasted no time putting runs up on the board, as a run from UConn put them ahead by a score.
2nd | After senior outfielder Maya Thomas reached base with a single, senior first baseman Savannah Heebner moved her to second and put a runner in scoring position for Houston. Once sophomore infielder Aspen Howie collected a single of her own, Thomas came around to score and the Cougars tied the game at one.
4th | With the Cougars trailing by a run, junior infielder Arielle James led the inning off being hit by a pitch and after a walk from Thomas, Heebner doubled home James from second to tie the score at two. Howie then stepped up to the plate and drove in her second run of the game to score Thomas for the second time, giving the Cougars a 3-2 lead.
ON DECK
Houston will resume its game with UConn at 1 p.m. on Friday. Fans with tickets from tonight's game will be allowed to use their tickets to watch the conclusion of the matchup between the Cougars and the Huskies.
