Cougars conclude season with most wins since 2013
AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Houston Softball team saw its season come to an end on Sunday, as the Cougars fell to Texas in the Regional Final of the NCAA Austin Regional.
The Cougars conclude their season with a 39-19 record, which are the most wins since 2013. Houston's appearance in the Regional Final was also the program's first since 2011.
Houston opened the day scoring a run in the second to take the first lead of the game, but the Cougars were unable to hold its advantage as Texas won 5-2 to force the winner-take-all contest that the Longhorns won 7-0.
GAME 1: HOUSTON 2, TEXAS 5
KEY INNINGS
2nd | After senior outfielder Maya Thomas opened the inning with a double to left, senior pitcher Savannah Heebner immediately followed with a single down the line that scored Thomas to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
3rd | Texas plated five runs in the inning to take a four-run lead.
5th | The Cougars tried to mount a comeback with three straight hits to the start the inning that resulted in junior outfielder Lindsey Stewart scoring off a single from junior infielder Kelli Montgomery, but the deficit proved to be too much to overcome, as Texas won 5-2.
