Kobe Hyland doubles and triples, Lael Lockhart Jr. strikes out eight in no-decision

TAMPA, Fla. -- The University of Houston Baseball team fell 5-3 at USF on Friday night at USF Baseball Stadium.

With the decision, the Cougars, who are receiving votes in the latest NCBWA Top 30 poll, move to 25-17 on the season and 8-8 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Bulls improve to 20-20 overall and 3-10 in league action.

KEY INNINGS
2nd | Houston struck first scoring two runs in the top of the second. With one out, junior left fielder Rey Fuentes III doubled down the right-field line. After freshman designated hitter Derrick Cherry singled two put two on, junior shortstop Kobe Hyland doubled home the pair with another double down the line in right.

4th | Cherry made it 3-0 with a one-out, solo home run to left center in the top of the fourth.

5th | USF used a leadoff single and one-out double to get on the board in the bottom of the fifth.

6th | The Bulls took a 4-3 lead behind three runs in the sixth.

8th | USF added an insurance run in the eighth for the 5-3 final.

HOUSTON NOTES
Offense:
• Hyland finished 2-for-3 with a double, triple, walk and two RBI.
• Cherry also turned in two hits, with his coming in a 2-for-4 showing with a single, home run, RBI and two runs scored.
• Fuentes III doubled in a 1-for-3 effort.

Pitching:
• Junior right-hander Sean Bretz (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing one run in the sixth inning.
• Junior Lael Lockhart Jr. struck out eight in a no-decision. He allowed three runs across five and one-third innings.
• Junior Devon Roedahl allowed one run over the final two and two-third innings.

ON DECK
The Cougars will look to even the series in a 5:30 p.m. CT first pitch on Saturday.

PARKING IN 2019
Gameday parking is offered in a different capacity than in prior years. Anyone entering Lot 16B (across the street from right field) will be subjected to paying a third party company employed by campus. This lot will no longer be an option for free parking on gamedays. All other lots surrounding the stadium will be free of charge two hours prior to first pitch.
