
Houston Rolls Up Cincinnati, 8-4, to Clinch Series

Triolo finishes 3-for-4 with three RBI and steal of home plate
HOUSTON -- The University of Houston Baseball team defeated Cincinnati, 8-4, on Saturday afternoon at Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park.
With the win, the Cougars clinch the series improve to 24-16 on the season and 8-7 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Bearcats fall to 18-21 overall and 8-7 in league action.
KEY INNINGS
2nd | Houston struck first with two runs in the bottom of the second. Free passes to senior center fielder Grayson Padgett (walk), junior shortstop Kobe Hyland (hit by pitch) and freshman second baseman Brad Burckel (walk) all reached via a free pass to load the bases. Junior third baseman Jared Triolo followed with a two-RBI single down the left-field line.
3rd | Cincinnati scored one run in the top of the second, but the Cougars answered with two runs in the bottom frame. After senior left fielder Rey Fuentes III walked and Padgett singled through the right side of the infield to put runners two on, Fuentes III came home one a single down the left-field line from junior right fielder Tyler Bielamowicz. Hyland walked to load the bases, and after a fielder's choice, Bielamowicz came home on an infield single from Burckel to take a 4-1 lead.
4th | The Bearcats capitalized on a leadoff triple with a sacrifice fly to score one run in the fourth.
6th | Houston scored three runs in the sixth. Triolo walked to leadoff the bottom frame, and senior first baseman Joe Davis walk intentionally walked following a strikeout. After a fielder's choice in which freshman center fielder Johnathon Thomas reached to put runners at the corners, he and Triolo executed a double steal to score one run. Padgett followed with a walk, and he and Thomas quickly added another double steal to put two runners in scoring position. Thomas came home on a balk, and Padgett followed, scoring on a single to center field from Bielamowicz later in the at-bat.
7th | The Cougars tacked on one more run in the seventh. Lovelace walked to open the frame and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Burckel. One batter later, Triolo delivered him with a single to center field.
9th | Cincinnati scored two runs in the top of the ninth for the 8-4 final.
HOUSTON NOTES
Offense:
• Triolo recorded his second three-hit game of the series, tying his season high, in a 3-for-4 effort. He finished with two singles, one double, three RBI, one run scored and one stolen base. His three RBI also tied his season high.
• Padgett and Bielamowicz each collected two hits, respectively. Padgett went 2-for-3 with one single, one double, two walks, two runs scored and one stolen base, while Bielamowicz finished 2-for-5 with two singles, two RBI, and one run scored.
• Burckel went 1-for-2 with a RBI single and one walk.
• Thomas, who entered into the game in the fifth inning, recorded a career-high two stolen bases.
Pitching:
• Seven pitchers saw action for the Cougars in the win.
• Junior right-hander Devon Roedahl (6-2) picked up his sixth win of the season, with all coming out of the bullpen. Roedahl retired all five batters he face to get through the fifth inning.
• Junior Sean Bretz entered in the ninth and got the final two outs to end Cincinnati's rally and record the first save of his career.
• Junior Brayson Hurdsman went two and two-thirds innings in the start, allowing just one run and recording four strikeouts.
• Junior Carter Henry came on in relief and recorded the final out of the third inning.
• Senior Nolan Bond pitched into the fifth inning before being relieved by Roedahl.
• Junior Fred Villarreal tossed two scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth innings.
• Senior Ryan Randel recorded one out in the ninth inning.
The Cougars will enjoy Easter Sunday before returning to action with a Tuesday, neutral-site matchup with Sam Houston State for the Don Sanders Cup finale. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. from Constellation Field, home of the 2018 Atlantic League Champion Sugar Land Skeeters, in Sugar Land, Texas.

Anyone entering Lot 16B (across the street from right field) will be subjected to paying a third party company employed by campus. This lot will no longer be an option for free parking on gamedays. All other lots surrounding the stadium will be free of charge two hours prior to first pitch.
