Cougars suffer first midweek loss of season
AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Houston Softball team had its offense halted on Wednesday night, as the Cougars fell to No. 11/11 Texas by a score of 5-0.
Wednesday's decision marked the first time this season the Cougars (26-15) dropped a midweek competition, as Houston moves to 7-1 on the year in midweek games. Senior outfielder Sarah Barker and junior infielders Sarah Queen and Arielle James each recorded a hit for the Cougars.
In the circle, junior pitcher Trystan Melancon and senior pitcher Savannah Heebner saw time for the Cougars. Heebner relieved Melancon in the bottom of the fifth and surrendered one run in her two innings of work.

KEY INNINGS
1st | The Longhorns struck first in the game, as a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning put them ahead 2-0.
5th | Texas stretched its lead to five in the bottom of the inning after three runs crossed the plate for the Longhorns, giving them a five-run advantage, which proved to be the difference in the game.
