SAN JOSE del Cabo, Mexico – University of Houston Men's Golfer Alexander Frances posted a 66 in Monday's Second Round at the Cabo Collegiate at Querencia to surge into a tie for second with a score of 5-under-137.
Starting his day off No. 6, Frances birdied his opening hole and added another birdie on the par-5 ninth hole. The Stege, Denmark, native made bogey on No. 10, but that would be the only blemish on his scorecard for the rest of the day.
Frances moved to 3-under following back-to-back birdies on Nos. 14-15 and added another birdie on the par-4 first hole. After two straight pars, he sank his sixth and final birdie of the day on the 552-yard, par-5 fourth hole.
Oklahoma State's Austin Eckroat held the Second-Round individual lead at 10-under 132. Frances joined Matthew Wolff (Oklahoma State), Trevor Werbylo (Arizona), Chun An Yu (Arizona) and Hayden Wood (Oklahoma State) in a tie for second.
Junior Zach Tracy posted his second straight round of 70 and was tied for 14th at 2-under 140. Like Frances, Tracy birdied his first hole Monday going off No. 5. The Houston native then drained three straight birdies on Nos. 9-11 to move to 4-under par through his first seven holes but gave two of the strokes back with back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 12-13
Tracy rebounding with another birdie on the par-5 15th hole and rallied from a double bogey-bogey stretch on Nos. 1-2 to sink birdie on the par-5 fourth hole.
Senior Matt Williams was tied for 38th at 147, while junior George Gardner was tied for 60th at 155. Junior Alex Isakson stood in 65th at 157. Competing as an individual, freshman Braxton Watkins was tied for 58th at 154.
As a team, the Cougars bettered the First-Round total by five strokes with a score of 285 and were tied for seventh at 575.
No. 1 Oklahoma State stood atop the team leaderboard at 546, nine strokes ahead of No. 36 Baylor. No. 9 Arizona State (556), No. 50 Arizona (569), No. 27 Florida State (571), No. 3 Vanderbilt (572), No. 12 LSU (575) and No. 48 Mississippi (575) rounded out the Top-10 leaders.

FINAL-ROUND PAIRINGS
For Tuesday's Final Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Texas A&M, Arkansas and Rice.
Frances begins the day for the Cougars at 10 a.m. (CST), Tuesday, off No. 10 with Tracy (No. 11), Williams (No. 12), Gardner (No. 13) and Isakson (No. 14) following. Watkins starts the Second Round in the first group off No. 17.
UP NEXT
Following the Cabo Collegiate at Querencia, the Cougars will host the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas, on March 11-12.
From there, the team will compete in the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City, Fla. on March 17-19.
