Montgomery on Bowerman Pre-NCAA Watch List

Senior sprinter ranks No. 1 in the 400 and No. 6 in the 200.
HOUSTON – Houston senior sprinter Kahmari Montgomery is a candidate on the pre-NCAA Indoor Championships watch list for the Bowerman, considered Track & Field's Heisman Trophy, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Thursday.
Montgomery currently ranks No. 1 in the USTFCCCA rankings in the 400-meter dash and No. 6 in the 200-meter dash. He is also a valuable leg on Houston's 4x400-meter relay that ranks No. 1 in the nation.
The Plainfield, ill., native claimed The American Athletic Conference's 400 title last week after clocking the world's fastest time this season with a time of 45.04. The time places Montgomery at No. 9 on the all-time NCAA list and No. 11 on the all-time world list with the performance.
Montgomery also ran a leg on Houston's 4x400-meter relay that clocked a world-record time of 3:01.51 on Feb. 9 at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational.
The winner of The American's Most Outstanding Performance award for his winning 400, Montgomery owns Houston's indoor 400-meter dash record and lays claim to the second-fastest indoor 200-meter dash in Houston history with a time of 20.63.

UP NEXT
Houston will send 11 entries to Birmingham, Ala., March 8-9, for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. The top 16 athletes nationally in each event, along with the top 12 relays, will qualify for the event.
