Houston to Compete in Colin Montgomerie Invitational

SPRING, Texas – The University of Houston Men's Golf program continues its spring season by competing in the Colin Montgomerie Invitational for the fourth consecutive year on Monday.

The tournament was recently added to the Cougars' schedule after rain forced the cancellation of the Final Round of the All-American Intercollegiate on Feb. 18.

The Cougars will compete on the 7,018-yard, par-72 course at Augusta Pines Golf Club with 36 holes scheduled for Monday and the final 18 holes set for Tuesday.

THE LINEUP
Sophomore Alexander Frances, junior George Gardner, senior Matt Williams, junior Zach Tracy and junior Alex Isakson were selected by Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke to represent Houston at the tournament.

Junior Logan Young, sophomore Andrew Gibson and freshman Braxton Watkins will compete as individuals.

Williams had a strong outing at the All-American Invitational. His total score of 2-under 142 at the rain-shortened tournament helped Houston achieve a second-place team finish, their best showing of the season.

The Calgary, Alberta, native leads the Cougars with a 72.93 scoring average and is tied with Young for the team lea with five rounds of par or better.

TEAM FIELD
The Cougars will compete against Abilene Christian, Bradley, California Baptist, Drake, Florida Gulf Coast, North Dakota, North Dakota State, New Orleans, Southeastern Louisiana, Stetson, UIW, UT Rio Grande Valley, Weber State Prairie View A&M and host Houston Baptist.

PAIRINGS
For Monday's First Round, Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from HBU, Abilene Christian and UTRGV beginning with an 8:15 a.m., shotgun start.

Isakson will start off No. 4 with Tracy (No. 3), Williams (No. 2), Gardner (first group off No. 1) and Frances (second group off No. 1) following.

On the individual side, Gibson and Watkins begin off No. 18 with Young (second group off No. 5) following.

The Second Round will follow the First Round.

UP NEXT
Following the Colin Montgomerie Invitational, the Cougars will compete at the Cabo Collegiate on March 3-5 at Querencia Golf Club in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico.

From there, the team will host the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas, on March 11-12.
