Senior punter tabbed to District 7 First Team
HOUSTON -- Houston Football senior punter Dane Roy was tabbed to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 7 First Team, the organization announced Thursday.
Roy, who boasts a 3.80 GPA as a communications/advertising major, is the first Academic All-District honoree for the Cougars since punter Logan Piper was tabbed to the First Team in 2014.
First-Team Academic All-District selections advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honors will be announced Dec. 9-12.
Roy, who is a team captain and on the Ray Guy Award Watch List, is currently first in The American Athletic Conference and sixth in FBS, averaging a career-best 47.2 yards per punt. His 47.2 yards per punt would set the Houston single-season program record if the season ended today.
Ranking third in the country with a 43.54 net average, the senior leads the conference with 21 punts downed inside the 20 and has 17 punts over 50 yards (second-most in the league).
Against Cincinnati, Roy set the Houston single-game record for punting average (54.0).
