Darby Gauntt leads all Cougars with an 18th-place finish
HOUSTON– The University of Houston Cross Country team competed in the American Athletic Conference Men's & Women's Cross Country Championship on Friday morning in Memphis at the Shelby Farms Park, posting a pair of eighth-place team finishes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the men's 8K race Devin Vallejo-Bannister led Houston with a 27th-place finish as he turned in a time of 25:18. He was trailed by Jemal Wote who notched a 32nd-place finish with a time of 25:35. G.J. Reyna finished 39th-overall at 25:45 and was followed across the finish line by Cameron Laverty in 46th-place at 26:02. Alan Elbanna concluded the scoring for the Cougars with a 48th-place finish with a time of 26:15.
On the women's side, freshman Darby Gauntt turned in a team-high 18th-place finish behind a time of 21:27 to help the Cougars finish eighth-overall in the team standings. Jahnavi Schneider finished second for Houston in 25th-place at 21:38, followed by Meredith Sorensen in 48th-place with a time of 22:20 to round out the top-50 for the Cougars. Madeline Castelberry clocked a time of 23:00 to finish in 66th-place, as Regan Lobodzinski concluded the scoring for Houston with a time of 23:07 for 68th-place.
