Houston to Face SEC Foes in Weekend Test

Cougars to face No. 8 Aggies and Vanderbilt in College Station
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team will head to College Station to face No. 8 Texas A&M and Vanderbilt at the Student Recreation Center Natatorium on Jan. 26 with a start time of 11 a.m.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Houston will continue its tour of the SEC when travels to Baton Rouge to face LSU and Rice on Feb. 1-2.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
- The Cougars are coming off of 21 podium finishes at Arkansas, including a pair of first place finishes from Laura Laderoute (100 BK, 55.03) and Ioanna Sacha (200 BK, 2:00.19)
- Houston will head to College Station for the first time under Head Coach Ryan Wochomurka and its first time since the 2014-15 season.
- Houston faced Vanderbilt earlier this season at the Phill Hansel Invitational.
- Mykenzie Leehy and Zarena Brown are a mainstay on the podium for the Cougars with NCAA B-Cuts in the Freestyle events.
- Peyton Kondis and Angeliki Mavrantza have helped anchor the Cougars in the Breaststroke, each closing out the Phill Hansel Invitational with NCAA B-Cut times.
- Laura Laderoute and Eleanna Koutsouveli have each had stellar seasons for the Cougars so far, highlighted by NCAA B-Cuts times in the Backstroke and IM events.
- Newcomer Ioanna Sacha had a stellar debut for the Cougars, winning the 200 Backstroke and posting the seventh-fastest time in program history.
- Katie Higgins in a force for the Cougars in the Butterfly events, breaking a 40 year-old program record in the 100 Butterfly earlier this season.
- Haley Benjamin has had a stellar start to her debut season at Houston, winning American Weekly honors for her conference-leading times in the distance events.
- On the boards, Katie Deininger, Lauren Burrell, Claire Liptak, and Jaylynn Whitt have posted conference-leading scores in the 1-meter, 3-meter, and platform.
- Texas A&M head into the meet ranked No. 8 in the latest CSCAA/TYR Top-25
- The meet on Sunday will be the Aggies second-straight in its home pool.
- Last weekend Texas A&M defeated SEC Rival LSU in a 172-121 decision, capturing 13 first-place finishes.
- The Aggies are in their 20th season under Head Coach Steve Baltman.
- Vanderbilt returns to action after defeating Marshall Jan. 12 in a 148-113 decision.
- The Commodores visited Houston earlier this season at the Phill Hansel Invitational where they finished eighth-overall.
- Vanderbilt is in its 13th season under Head Coach Jeremy Organ
