HOUSTON -- Highlighted by 31 games at Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park, the University of Houston Baseball program and Head Coach Todd Whitting announced the Cougars' 56-game schedule for 2019 on Thursday morning.
"We have put together a schedule that once again puts us in a position to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament," Whitting said. "We have numerous teams in both non-conference and in the American Athletic Conference that competed in the NCAA Regionals last season. The 2019 schedule will ensure that we will compete against some of the best Division I teams in the nation.
"This schedule will be challenging for our team and exciting for our fans. We are looking forward to competing against these great programs in 2019."
NOTES ON SCHEDULE
2 -- Cougars set to play two games at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas: Rice, Sam Houston State
4 -- Houston will host four American opponents at home: Cincinnati, ECU, Tulane, UConn
7 -- The schedule features seven home midweek games
8 -- Houston will host eight three-game series
9 -- Head Coach Todd Whitting enters his ninth season at the helm of the Cougars
14 -- Houston will host Opening Weekend games for the 14th straight year
18 -- 2019 will mark the 18th season to play in the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park
21 -- The Cougars are scheduled to play 21 games vs. eight different 2018 NCAA Regional teams
22 -- The Cougars are 22-2 under Todd Whitting (last eight seasons) during Opening Weekend
31 -- Houston will host 31 home games at Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park
37 -- The Cougars are scheduled to play 37 games in the Houston area
For the 14th straight season, Houston will host games on opening weekend, welcoming Northwestern State in a three-game series across Feb. 15-17. The Cougars are 22-2 in Opening Weekend under Whitting.
Mid-week action gets underway Feb. 19 with a trip down Interstate 10 to McNeese in Lake Charles, La., before the Houston returns home to host Arizona in a series Feb. 22-24. The Cougars will also host McNeese in a return trip on March 19.
Houston makes its second Tuesday trip down I-10 on Feb. 26, this time to take on Lamar in Beaumont, Texas.
For the 18th time in program history, the Cougars will compete in the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic at Minute Maid Park, taking place March 1-3. Houston will face three in-state teams in TCU (March 1), Texas State (March 2) and Texas A&M (March 3).
After the College Classic, the Cougars return home for five straight home games, featuring a three-game series against Army on March 8-10. Houston will also play non-conference series at Dallas Baptist (March 15-17) and against UNLV (May 3-5).
The 2019 season sees the continuation of the Silver Glove Series with Rice and the Don Sanders Cup with Sam Houston State. Each series will feature a home game, road game and neutral site matchup at Constellation Field, home of the Sugar Land Skeeters of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, in Sugar Land, Texas.

Other non-conference, midweek games include home games against UTSA (March 12), FIU (April 3), Texas A&M (April 16) and FAU (May 8), and a road game at Stephen F. Austin (March 27).
Looking to defend its regular-season title, the Cougars will host UConn (March 22-24), ECU (April 5-7), Cincinnati (April 18-20) and Tulane (May 10-12) in American Athletic Conference play, while making trips to Memphis (March 29-31), Wichita State (April 12-14), USF (April 26-28) and UCF (May 16-18).
For the sixth straight year, the American Athletic Conference Championship will be held at Spectrum Field, Spring Training home of the Philadelphia Phillies, in Clearwater, Fla., across May 21-26.
FALL EXHIBITIONS
Fans can get their first look at the 2019 Cougars with two October exhibitions at Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park. Houston will host San Jacinto College on Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. and Blinn College in a 4 p.m. tilt on Oct. 14. Admission is free to both games.
SEASON TICKET RENEWAL INFORMATION
