Houston Breaks Ground on Indoor Facility

NASH Industries named general contractor
HOUSTON -- Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Chris Pezman, Head Coach Kristin Vesely and members of the Diamond Club broke ground on the Softball Indoor Facility on Wednesday afternoon.
"To our Diamond Club Members, all of this is not possible without you," Vesely said during the ceremony. "This (facility) will have an immediate impact on our players. Not only our training, but quality of life in that they can come in and be in an environment where they can get extra repetitions to progress us to being a top 25 program year-in and year-out.
"Thank you for this opportunity. Thank you for investing in our student-athletes and our program."
Diamond Club members Alice Conlon, Mike Conlon, Mandy Chastang and John King joined Vesely, Pezman and Senior Associate Athletic Director for Capitol Projects T.J. Meagher for the ceremony.

ON THE INDOOR FACILITY
The indoor facility, which will replace the current batting cage down the right-field line, will measure 70-feet by 80-feet. The 5,600-square-foot space will feature five batting cages, measuring 60-feet long by 15-feet wide each, with retractable nets for the space to be used in a variety of ways.

The facility, which will have a synthetic turf floor and be temperature controlled, will be ready for the 2019 season.
The facility, along with the LED, Daktronics video board installed prior to the 2018 season, represents $1.2 million in upgrades at Cougar Softball Stadium. All contributions were raised through the Diamond Club, the fundraising arm of the Softball program, and marked a record-breaking year in donations received and funds raised.

NASH Industries will serve as the general contractor.
In June 2018, NASH Industries completed its renovation of the Hall of Honor, the 4,000-square-foot northeast corner of the Athletics/Alumni Center's first floor, into the Cougar Den, a student-athlete dining area and lounge.
