Houston leader sweeps indoor, outdoor coaching titles
HOUSTON – Head Coach Leroy Burrell was named the USTFCCCA South Central Region Coach of the Year for the outdoor season, the organization announced Friday.
In his 20th season with the Cougars, Burrell led the Cougar men and women to the first sweep of the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships since the league was formed in 2013. It was the first time the men and women have swept conference titles since 2005.
At the national level, Burrell and the Cougars landed 11 individual bids for 13 events and two relays for the NCAA Championships in June. The men will send eight individuals, while the women will be represented at the championship meet for the first time since 2015.
Burrell swept each of the indoor and outdoor South Central Region Coach of the Year awards after claiming the indoor honor in March.
