AUSTIN, Texas â€" University of Houston junior Leonie Harm fired the team's low score of the day with a 71, and senior Megan Thothong continued to stand among the Top-10 leaders following the Second Round of the NCAA Austin Regional.
Beginning her day off No. 10 on the 6,341-yard, par-71 course at UT Golf Club, Harm overcame a bogey on her second hole of the day to drain back-to-back birdies on Nos. 13-14.
The 2018 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and 37th-ranked collegiate player then closed out her round with 13 straight pars to move into a tie for 34th at 147.
Thothong drained a pair of birdies in her Second Round and overcame two bogeys on her first three holes of the day. Following that start, the Dallas native sank eight straight pars before another bogey on No. 3.
Fortunately, the 2018 All-American Athletic Conference performer rebounded with her second birdie on the 459-yard, par-5 fifth hole and was tied for eighth at 142.
Thothong, who checks in at No. 55 in the latest Golfstat individual national rankings, is the first Cougar in program history to complete in four NCAA Regionals during her career.
As a team, the 25th-ranked Cougars bettered their First-Round total by three shots but were only able to move into 12th in the team standings with a score of 597.
No. 3 Arkansas held the second-day lead at 555, while host and eighth-ranked Texas was in second at 566. No. 14 Florida stood in third at 578 with No. 35 Baylor (581), Virginia Tech (581), No. 21 Oklahoma (581) and No. 38 Texas A&M (581) were tied for fourth.
The Top-6 teams and Top-3 individuals not on a qualifying team from each NCAA Regional advance to the NCAA Championships, set for Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla., on May 18-23. Houston is looking for is first team appearance at the NCAA Championships.
No. 19 Auburn (583), No. 11 Michigan State (587), No. 41 BYU (587) and UTSA (593) rounded out the Top-11 teams.
Senior Courtney Tibiletti was tied for 73rd at 154, while sophomore Amanda Elich was tied for 77th at 155. Senior Allie Andersen was tied for 79th at 156.
Texas A&M's Maddie Szeryk continued to hold the individual lead at 7-under 137, while Arkansas' Dylan Kim was in second at 138. Arkansas teammates Maria Fassi and Kaylee Benton finished the Second Round in third and fourth with scores of 139 and 140, respectively.
FINAL ROUND on TUESDAY
Houston's Final Round begins with an 8 a.m., Wednesday split-tee start. The Cougars will be in groups with student-athletes from BYU and UTSA.
Andersen will start the day off No. 10 at 8 a.m., with Elich (8:10 a.m.), Tibiletti (8:20 a.m.), Harm (8:30 a.m.) and Thothong (8:40 a.m.) following.
