HOUSTON â€" The University of Houston Athletics Department honored its 94 graduating seniors with a breakfast on Monday, where the student-athletes were presented with their stoles prior to graduation this week.
Student Athlete Advisory Committee President, and graduating senior soccer player, Georgi Dolence opened the presentation with remarks about the memories the seniors have made throughout their time on campus. Dolence was followed by Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Chris Pezman, who thanked the exiting class for their contributions on the playing field and in the classroom.
"This is a powerful time to honor the Cougars." Dolence said. "This ceremony gives us a chance to reflect on the amazing accomplishments of our senior class, both in competition and in the classroom."
An emotional farewell highlighted the ceremony, where student-athletes produced a collaborative video, with memories of their times on campus, as well as emotional goodbyes to their favorite teammates. The gathering ended with the presentation of their graduation stoles, presented by Faculty Athletics Representative, Dr. Richard Scamell.
"It meant everything (to be able to have one final breakfast with the seniors)," Basketball guard Wes Van Beck said. "You came in with them, and you're exiting with them, and I hope we can be reunited in the future."
2018 Spring Commencement Ceremonies begin Thursday, May 10, at 9 a.m., and run through Saturday afternoon.
