
All-Around Effort Leads to Win over UCF

Cougars improve to 34-22 overall, will play loser of Tulane-ECU next

With the win, the Cougars stay alive in the conference tournament and improve to 34-22 on the year, while UCF was eliminated and falls to 35-21.
Houston will face the loser of (8) Tulane or (4) ECU at 8 a.m. CT on Thursday.
HOUSTON HITS
- Tyler Bielamowicz belted his third home run of the year and second of the week with two outs in the third inning.
- Joe Davis belted his team-leading ninth home run of the year, second of the week, and 31st of his career -- moving him into a tie for first all-time with Pat Hewes (1985-86) and is just one home run from breaking the all-time Houston home run record.
- Jared Triolo singled in the eighth inning to extend his on-base streak to 22 games.
- Houston improved to 14-4 all-time in Clearwater with the win.
- Trey Cumbie and Joey Pulido combed to shut out UCF in the final 6.0 innings of work.

Houston out hit UCF, 8-6 and of those eight hits, five came for extra bases including home runs by Tyler Bielamowicz and Joe Davis -- for the second straight game.
Bielamowicz drove in a pair on his home run, while Davis double and homered for two hits and an RBI. Connor Hollis had two RBI on a double and Cooper Coldiron drove in a run on a base hit.
PITCHING BREAKDOWN
[W] Trey Cumbie | 5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 4 K
[S] Joey Pulido | 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K
Houston starter Trey Cumbie was extremely effective, tossing 5.2 innings, allowing just two runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts. He earned the win and improved to 7-3 on the season.
Senior Joey Pulido took over in the sixth inning and was lights out, registering 3.1 shutout innings in relief, striking out five and allowing just one hit with no walks for his sixth save of the year.
Cumbie and Pulido combined for 6.0 shutout innings to close out the game.
KEY INNINGS
3rd | Houston scored first as Kyle Lovelace kept the third inning alive with a two-out single, followed by a two-run home run by Tyler Bielamowicz, his second long ball of the week and third on the year to put the Cougars head 2-0.
UCF then followed with three including a pair of doubles to plate two runs and tie the score at 2-2.
4th | The Cougars broke open the tie game with two more runs in the fourth when Lael Lockhart Jr. reached on a hit by pitch with one out. Joe Davis then doubled for a ground-rule double to move Lockhart to third. Connor Hollis came up big with a two-run double into right center to make it a 4-2 game.
6th | Joe Davis belted his ninth home run and 31st of his career to extend Houston's lead to 5-2 in the sixth. The home run was a two-out solo shot and his 31 home runs now ties the Houston all-time home run record, set by Pat Hewes (1985-86).
8th | Houston got bases loaded and Cooper Coldiron plated Lael Lochart Jr. with an RBI-single up the middle for the sixth and final run.
