Houston Earns 1-0 Shutout Win

HOUSTON -- Houston Baseball junior Aaron Fletcher struck out a career-high 11 and Nick Slaughter delivered a walkoff single in the ninth to lift the Cougars to a 1-0 shutout win over USF on Saturday to even the weekend series at Schroeder Park.
With the win, the Cougars improved to 18-12 on the year and 5-3 in American Athletic Conference play, while USF fell to 21-10 and 5-3.
The rubber game and series finale will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday.
HOUSTON HITS
- Jared Triolo has reached base in 29 straight games and has a hit in 15 straight.
- Lael Lockhart Jr. has reached base in 16 straight games.
- Aaron Fletcher fanned 11 for a career-high, surpassing his previous best of nine vs. Memphis on March 24.

Nick Slaughter delivered the game-winner in his only at-bat on the night. He produced an RBI-single into right field.
Connor Hollis led the way with a two-hit day and scored the winning run after reaching base with a single to open the ninth. Jared Triolo extended his team-leading on-base streak to 29 games with a single in the ninth.

Houston starter Aaron Fletcher worked 8.0 scoreless innings and struck out a career-high 11 hitters, while walking just one and only surrendering five hits.
He was lights out in his eighth start of the year, going on to lower his season ERA to an impressive 1.03.
Sophomore reliever Carter Henry took over with one runner on in the top of the ninth with no outs and induced a ground out and finished with a pair of strikeouts to keep the game at a 0-0 stalemate. He went on to earn the win with the walkoff, improving to 2-0 on the season.
KEY INNINGS
9th | It took until the bottom of the ninth for a run to score, but it was Houston that produced the game-winner.
Connor Hollis and Jared Triolo opened the bottom of the ninth with back-to-back singles before a Lael Lockhart Jr. walk to load the bases. USF issued a strikeout, but with one out and the bases full of Cougars, pinch hitter Nick Slaughter came up big with an RBI-single into right field, plating Hollis for the game-winner.

Houston and USF will wrap up its three-game series at 1 p.m. Sunday at Schroeder Park.
