Houston to Compete at NCAA Austin Regional

HOUSTON â€" Coming off its second conference title in the last three seasons, the University of Houston Women's Golf program will compete as the No. 7 seed at the NCAA Austin Regional at the University of Texas Golf Club, beginning May 7.
Watching from the Dave Williams Academy at Golf Club of Houston, the Cougars learned their postseason destination during the NCAA Selection Show, airing on Golf Channel on Wednesday afternoon.
At No. 7, the Cougars received their highest NCAA Regional seeding in program history. It topped the previous high of No. 9 at the 2016 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell, the Cougars will compete in NCAA Regional play for the fourth straight season, or every season in which the team has been eligible to compete. The program began in 2013-14 with four student-athletes competing as individuals per NCAA rules.
In addition, the Cougars are one of only 28 teams to qualify for NCAA Regional play in each of the last four years. Houston earned its ticket to NCAA Regional play after winning the American Athletic Conference Championships title by 14 strokes on April 15-17 at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Fla.
The 25th-ranked Cougars will join No. 1 seed Arkansas, No. 2 seed Texas, No. 3 seed Michigan State, No. 4 seed Florida, No. 5 seed Auburn, No. 6 seed Oklahoma, No. 8 seed Miami (Fla.), No. 9 seed Baylor, No. 10 seed Texas A&M, No. 11 seed BYU, No. 12 seed ECU, No, 13 seed Texas Tech, No. 14 seed Virginia Tech, No. 15 seed UTSA, No. 16 seed Georgetown, No. 17 seed Houston Baptist and No. 18 seed Missouri State on the 6,342-yard, par-72 layout at UT Golf Club.
Brigitte Dunne (SMU); Xiaolin Tian (Maryland); Greta Bruner (TCU); Katrina Prendergast (Colorado State); Ellen Secor (Colorado State) and Faith Summers (SMU) were selected to compete as individuals as the NCAA Austin Regional.
The Top-6 teams and Top-3 individuals not on a qualifying team from each NCAA Regional advance to the NCAA Championships, set for Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla., on May 18-23.
The Cougars were one of 72 teams and 24 individuals were selected to compete in four NCAA Regionals across the nation. Other NCAA Regional sites include: Don Veller Seminole Golf Course & Club (Tallahassee, Fla.); University Ridge Golf Course (Madison, Wis.) and TPC Harding Park (San Francisco).
IN 2017-18
This season, the Cougars have enjoyed tremendous success and been ranked among the nation's Top-25 leaders for most of the season. Houston has posted eight Top-5 team finishes, including Top-3 showings in each of the last four tournaments.
In their most recent action, Houston set an American Athletic Conference Championships record with a team score of 11-under 277 to capture the second league title in program history.
Seniors Allie Andersen, Megan Thothong and Courtney Tibiletti and junior Leonie Harm earned places on the All-American Athletic Conference Team â€" setting a school single-season record â€" while Harm was recognized as the league's Player of the Year and Chadwell was honored as its Coach of the Year for the second time in his career.
