Houston Baseball went 4-1 last week, splitting a home-and-home with Sam Houston State before sweeping No. 24 Wichita State at Schroeder Park to improve to 25-15 overall and 10-5 in The American.

Against SHSU, won 9-4 at Schroeder Park before dropping a 8-3 decision in Huntsville, Texas, to even the best-of-three-game Don Sanders Cup … In the Tuesday tilt, the Cougars recorded six extra-base hits including five doubles … Sophomore Lael Lockhart Jr. tossed a career-long four and on-third innings and fanned career-high five hitters en route to his first career win … Prior to Houston's host series against WSU, Aaron Fletcher was named to the College Baseball Foundation Pitcher of the Year Watch List … Against the Shockers, the Cougars won the series opener, 3-1 … Junior southpaw Trey Cumbie tossed eight innings, surrendering just one run on five hits with one walk and nine strikeouts … Sophomore Tyler Bielamowicz provided all the offense needed with a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the first … After the game, it was decided Saturday's game would be moved to Sunday as part of doubleheader … In the first game on Sunday, which was an agreed upon seven-inning affair, the Cougars won 6-5, as junior Grayson Padgett, who went 3-for-3, walked it off with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh … In the finale, senior Cooper Coldiron finished with two doubles and drove in two runs, the eventual game-winners … Senior Kyle Ott improved to 3-0 with the win in relief, while sophomore Carter Henry picked up the three-inning save, his second of the weekend and fifth of the year … For his efforts, Padgett was named The American Player of the Week.

Houston Men's Golf finished with three Cougars among the Top-30 after the First Round on Sunday … Reigning The American Individual Champion Michael Perras, George Gardner and Papito Gonzalez each turned in 4-over 75 rounds … On Monday, the Cougars cut 12 strokes off their opening-round 17-over 301 with a 289 to move up to eighth place … Perras and sophomore Zach Tracy each fired 1-under 70s to lead the team in the Second Round … The three-day, 54-hole tournament wraps up with the final 18 holes Tuesday … For live scoring, click here.

Houston held a 2-stroke team advantage after the First Round on Sunday before doubling its lead to four strokes entering the Final Round … Saving their best round for last, the Cougars posted the lowest round of the tournament with an 11-under 277 to finished with a 6-over 870 and win by a 14-stroke margin … The American Championship is the second for the Cougars in three years and in the fourth year with a full team … Megan Thothong (3-under 213), Leonie Harm (214) and Courtney Tibiletti (219) finished third, fourth and seventh, respectively … A day after wining the title, Thothong, Allie Anderson, Tibiletti and Harm were all named to the All-American Athletic Conference Team … With four honorees, Houston topped its previous record of three for most All-Conference performers in a single season … Adding to the postseason awards, Harm and Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell collected the top individual awards from The American … Harm was chosen by the league's head coaches as the Player of the Year for the first time in her career, while Chadwell received the league's Coach of the Year honor for the second time in the last three years … Following the American Athletic Conference Championships, the Cougars aware their NCAA postseason fate … The NCAA Selection Show will air at 4:30 p.m., April 25 on the Golf Channel.

Houston opened its series with a 2-0 shutout of Tulsa … Sophomore third baseman Sarah Queen finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a two-out, two-run shot over the wall in left center in the bottom of the third inning … In the circle, junior Savannah Heebner tossed a three-hitter to record her ninth shutout of the season and 18th overall of her career … On Saturday, the Cougars edged the Golden Hurricane, 3-2, to clinch the series … Queen hit a go-ahead, leadoff home run in the bottom of the fifth inning … The home run was her team-leading eight of the season and second of the series .. Houston fell 7-2 in the series finale … For her efforts, Queen was named to The American Weekly Honor Roll.
TENNIS

Houston Tennis closed its season with a 1-1 showing at the American Athletic Conference Championship to finish the year with a 20-4 overall record.

The Cougars swept 11-seeded UConn before falling 4-2 to three-seeded Wichita State … Against UConn, the tandems of Lauren Alter and Alison Mills, and Ana Glumac and Constandena Nicolaou clinched the doubles point … In singles, Alter, Nicolaou and Glumac all posted victories … Against WSU, Sveva Mazzari and Tsveta Dimitrova recorded wins in singles.

Prior to the weekend meets, sprinter Elijah Hall was named to the Men's Mid-Outdoor Watch List for The Bowerman by the USTFCCCA … Away from the rest of the team, sophomore Nathaniel Mechler competed in the decathlon at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. … Mechler tallied a total of 7,722 points throughout the 10-event competition to finish second overall and first among collegiate competitors … Mechler's total is the third-best decathlon in program history and moves him to No. 6 on the NCAA list this season … Senior distance runner Brian Barraza broke his own school record in the 5,000-meter run, finishing the 12.5-lap race in 13:38.71, shaving more than 13 seconds off his personal-best mark of 13:52.52 set in 2016 … Barraza finished the race in fourth overall and third among collegiates, giving him the third-best time in the NCAA this season … Barraza now holds two of the nation's top-3 times after running the third-fastest 3,000-meter steeplechase earlier this season, while also setting the school-record in that event … In his career, Barraza owns six program distance records … Kahmari Montgomery turned in a record-setting performance in just his second outdoor 400-meter dash of the season … Montgomery raced one lap around the track in 44.91 to set the school record, breaking Chris Jones' 1997 mark of 44.92 … Montgomery finished the race third among collegiates, moving him to third in the NCAA this season and seventh in the world … For complete results from the Mt.
