Oliver Attends NCAA Elite Student-Athlete Symposium

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Football program kicks off its spring practices Monday, and one member of the program will be fresh off a trip to Indianapolis for the NCAA Elite Student-Athlete Symposium.
Defensive tackle Ed Oliver, along with defensive line coach A.J. Blum, spent the weekend in Indianapolis attending the event that included a trip to the NFL Combine.

The NCAA Elite Student-Athlete Symposium is an educational opportunity to bring together college student-athletes, specifically football student-athletes, deemed capable of competing in professional sports to learn the realistic expectations of life as a professional athlete, to obtain career development necessary to inform decisions and to plan post-professional career options that could include a return to college sports.
The weekend started off Friday at the NCAA Headquarters with a session on the current state of NCAA Football which included remarks from NCAA Executive Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, Oliver Luck, and followed with sessions on athletics eligibility and digital media responsibility.
Saturday opened with sessions designed to broaden the student-athletes transition from the collegiate landscape to the professional level and included a visit to the NFL Combine, an NFL scouting panel and discussion with the NFLPA on agent relations.
The weekend at the event ended with sessions on NFL player engagement and financial awareness for players learning to manage sudden wealth.
Oliver and his teammates kick off the 2018 season on Sept. 1 when they travel across Houston to face Rice before opening the 2018 home season on Sept. 8 vs. Arizona with Heisman candidate Khalil Tate and the return of former Houston head coach Kevin Sumlin.
