
Houston Welcomes ECU on Senior Day

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Cougar Women's Tennis team plays host to ECU on Friday, March 30. The match is slated to begin at noon at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.
Friday's match will serve as Houston's Senior Day. The Cougars will honor Sveva Mazzari, Alison Mills and Ana Glumac in a ceremony prior to the contest.
With two home matches left, Houston is in search of an undefeated season on its home courts. The Cougars picked up their 11th win at home this season, when they beat Louisiana Tech 4-0 on March 24.
Doubles started off strong for the Cougars against Louisiana Tech, with Lauren Alter and Alison Mills defeating Nadja Manjon and Angela Lorenzo 6-2. This put the pair at 11-3 when playing together this spring season. Tsveta Dimitrova and Sveva Mazzari followed up with a 6-2 win of their own to clinch the doubles point for the Cougars. They improved to 14-4 on the season by beating Karla Montalvo and Andrea Perez.
The Cougars rode their momentum into singles play, with Mazzari sweeping Claudia Oravcova 6-0, 6-0 to give the Cougars a 2-0 overall lead. The Cougars would go on to sweep the match 4-0, with singles wins from Dimitrova and Ana Glumac to seal the match.
ABOUT THE PIRATES
ECU comes into Houston with a 12-6 overall record and a 4-5 record on the road. The Pirates are riding a two-match win streak, in which they beat Richmond 4-0, and Charlotte 4-2. They have a 1-3 conference record, with a win against Temple and losses from UCF, Memphis, and Tulane.
The Pirates are led by sophomore Nastja Rettich in singles, in which she currently holds a 12-3 record. In doubles, Lisa Hofbauer and Celia Ruiz boast an 8-5 record when playing together this spring season.
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
The Cougars travel to Dallas to take on SMU on Saturday, April 7. First serve is set for noon. The next day, the Cougars return home to host Prairie View A&M in a doubleheader. Start times are 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., in what will prove to be Houston's regular-season finale.
