Houston Sweeps American Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. â€" Houston Baseball's Jared Triolo and Aaron Fletcher helped the Cougars to a 5-0 week and with that, earned American Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, announced by the league office Monday.
Houston improved to 16-8 on the season and is riding an eight-game win streak. The Cougars wrapped a 5-0 week, which included midweek wins over Lamar and Prairie View A&M and a weekend sweep to open league play vs. Memphis.
The weekly honor was the first career honor for both Triolo and Fletcher.

- Went 11-for-21 (.524) in Houston's 5-0 week
- Notched five multi-hit games this week
- Extended on base streak to 23 straight games and hit streak to nine
- Drove in eight RBI in series sweep of Memphis
- Belted two home runs in series vs. Memphis
- Had the only two RBI in Game 1 win vs. Memphis (2-0) on two-run HR, had two of three RBI in Game 2 win vs. Memphis (3-2) and had a career-high four RBI in series finale vs. Memphis (9-3), highlighted by a three-run HR
- Also stole three bases (3-for-3) on the week and had two doubles
- Currently leads Houston with a .358 average and 34 hits
Aaron Fletcher | Jr. | LHP
- Helped Houston to a 3-0 shutout win over Memphis to clinch the weekend series
- Notched first career complete game shutout
- Tossed career-long 9.0 innings
- Had a career-high nine strikeouts
- Only allowed four hits with no walks in win to improve to 4-0 on the season
- Lowered ERA to 0.95 on the year
- The complete game shutout came in just his sixth career start
Junior LHP Trey Cumbie was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
Cumbie tossed his second straight complete game shutout this year (vs. New Mexico 3/16, vs. Memphis (3/23) and sixth CG of his career. He has thrown 21.2 scoreless innings dating back to his start vs. San Diego on March 9. Against Memphis, he allowed just three hits with one walk and tallied eight strikeouts. He has fanned 18 and walked just one in last two CG shutouts.
ON DECK
Houston will hit the road for the next five games, beginning with a midweek matchup at Rice on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The Cougars will then travel to Cincinnati to face off in a three-game conference series, Thursday â€" Saturday.
