OAHU, Hawai'i Ã¢â‚¬" The 24th-ranked University of Houston Women's Golf program stood in third place Tuesday evening after posting a 36-hole score of 617 on the first day of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at Kaneohe Klipper Golf Club.

The Cougars opened the tournament with a team score of 312 in the morning session on the 6,096-yard, par-72 course and followed that with a 305 in the afternoon session.

Senior Allie Andersen stood in a tie for ninth at 151. The Woodlands, Texas, native opened the tournament with a 73 in the morning, draining a birdie on the par-5 seventh hole.

Seniors Megan Thothong and Courtney Tibiletti joined Andersen among the top-20 leaders with scores of 154 to tie for 20th.

No. 6 Texas held the first-day lead at 589 with No. 17 Oklahoma State in second at 603. Following the Cougars, Osaka Gakuin (620), No. 31 Texas A&M (620), Colorado State (620), Rutgers (621), No. 43 Pepperdine (628), Washington State (630) and Hawai'i (633) rounded out the top-10 leaders.

Junior Leonie Harm was tied for 33rd at 158, while sophomore Amanda Elich was tied for 64th at 172.

Texas' Kaitlyn Papp held the individual lead at 1-over 145 to finish one stroke ahead of Maddie Szeryk (Texas A&M) and Emilee Hoffman (Texas). Pepperdine's Momoka Kobori stood in fourth at 148.

FINAL ROUND on WEDNESDAY
The tournament wraps up with the final 18 holes beginning with a 1 p.m. (CDT) shotgun start Wednesday. Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from Texas and Oklahoma State.

Andersen begins the day off No. 1 with Thothong (No. 2), Harm (first group of No. 3), Tibiletti (second group off No. 3) and Elich (No. 4) following.

UP NEXT
Following the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational will compete at the HBU Husky Invitational on March 19-20 at BlackHorse Golf Club in Cypress, Texas.

From there, the team will compete at the LSU Tiger Classic on March 23-25 at University Club in Baton Rouge, La.
