In Houston's series opener on Friday, junior starter Trey Cumbie struck out a 10 batters, retiring 19 in a row between the first and seventh inning … For his effort, he was named to the American Athletic Conference's Weekly Honor Roll … On Saturday, the Cougars rebounded with a 9-4 win, as the top four hitters in the lineup had five hits and five RBI … Drew Minter doubled twice and drove in a run, while scoring two runs to lead the offense … Cooper Coldiron also tallied two hits, two RBI and scored a run … Lael Lockhart Jr., who also made his first career relief appearance in the game, had two RBI, while Grayson Padgett, Joe Davis, Rey Fuentes III each had one … In the series finale on Sunday, offense again led the way with a 10-run, 12-hit effort … Joe Davis belted his first home run of the year and 23rd of his career to move into a tie for 7th all-time on the Houston home run list … Landon Etzel also went deep, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
MEN'S BASKETBALL

No. 25 Houston went 1-1 on the week, falling 91-85 at Memphis on Thursday, before rebounding with a 109-58 victory over ECU on Sunday to improve to 22-6 overall and 12-4 in American Athletic Conference play.

At Memphis, senior guard Rob Gray led all players with 30 points and seven assists … The performance marked the sixth 30-point game of his career, and with his total, Gray moved into a tie with Tim Moore (1993-95) for sixth in Houston career history with six 30-point efforts … Guards Corey Davis Jr. and Armoni Brooks finished with 15 points apiece and combined for nine of the Cougars' 11 3-pointers … Davis sank at least one 3-pointer in his 23rd straight game, tying with Richard Hollis for the sixth-longest streak in school history … Against ECU, the Cougars went on a 35-4 run early in the game and erupted for 62 first-half points on the way to a 109-58 win … the win was marked the largest margin of victory in a conference game in American history and also the most points ever scored in an American Conference game … With the victory, Houston clinched a First-Round bye at the upcoming American Athletic Conference Championship, scheduled for March 8-11 inside the Amway Center in Orlando … Gray finished with 19 points and 11 assists with four rebounds and a game-high three steals in only 22 minutes of action … Gray recorded the first double-double of his career and became the fourth Cougar to enjoy a double-double in 2017-18, joining Devin Davis, freshman forward Fabian White Jr., and sophomore guard Armoni Brooks … Gray also became the first Cougar to record a points-assists double-double since guard L.J. Rose finished with 16 points and 11 assists at UCF on March 7, 2014.

At USF, Houston finished with a trio of players in double figures including a team-high 21 points from sophomore Angela Harris … The effort was Harris' third straight of 20 or more points … Sophomore Jasmyne Harris finished the contest with 14 points, while Serithia Hawkins added 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds … Against UCF, Jasmyne Harris finished with a game-high 20 points … Angela Harris added 14 points, while Myyah West led the Cougars on the boards with seven rebounds … Prior to the game, Houston honored its three seniors â€" Mariah Mitchell, Dionna Collins and Kaila Chizer.

The University of Houston will celebrate the 2018 edition of Homecoming on Nov. 10 as Houston hosts Temple, and Family Weekend on Oct. 27 as Houston hosts USF … Houston linebacker Austin Robinson has received a legislative relief waiver from the NCAA which has granted the Pearland, Texas, native a sixth year of eligibility … Robinson returns to the Houston defense after seeing action in all 12 games last season with four starts … He totaled 33 tackles with four tackles for loss, one sack and two quarterback hurries on the year.

Houston opened its home schedule with a 8-0, run-rule win over Yale in six inning on Friday night … On Saturday, the Cougars defeated Syracuse, 2-1, in eight innings, before home runs from Kaylin Crumpton and Mariah Garcia propelled the team to a 2-0 win over UNLV in the night cap … On Sunday, Houston closed its tournament with a 7-0 win over UTSA … For the weekend , sophomore Arielle James led the Cougars with a .500 average, going 6-for-12 with three doubles, one RBI and three runs scored … For her efforts, she was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll … As an offense, the team outscored its opponents 19-1 … In the circle, the Cougars pitching staff did not allow an earned run across 28.0 innings pitched, as three games were won via shutout … The lone run scored came via international tiebreaker … Junior Savannah Heebner tossed two complete-game shutouts in wins over Yale and UNLV, while fellow pitchers Trystan Melancon (Syracuse) and Presley Bell (UTSA) picked up wins in complete-game efforts, respectively … The Cougars will conclude their eight-game homestand with another host tournament, the Houston Red & White Showcase … Houston will welcome Stephen F. Austin and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to Cougar Softball Stadium across March 2-4 … Mississippi Valley State and Southern will also participate in the tournament but will not play the Cougars.
TENNIS

Houston improved to 10-1 on the season with 5-2 and 5-0 victories over UConn and Northwestern State. With the victory over the Huskies, the Cougars start American Athletic Conference play 1-0.

In Houston's conference opener against UConn, the tandems of Tsveta Dimitrova and Sveva Mazzari, and Lauren Alter and Alison Mills secured the doubles point with 6-2 victories, respectively … In singles, Mazzari, Alter, Nicolau, Constanden and Glumac all picked up victories … Against Northwestern State, Houston won the doubles point, and Dimitrova, Mazzari, Alter, Gluman all won in singles to secure the sweep.

Houston's men's team won its fourth-straight American Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship, while the women finished fifth for the second-strait top-five finish

Saturday's title was the 19th indoor championship in men's program history as the Cougars have won 15 indoor conference championships in Head Coach Leroy Burrell's 20-year tenure … The four straight titles give the Houston men's program its third such streak of indoor championships as the Cougars also had a four-year win streak in Conference USA from 1997 to 2000 and a five-year streak in Conference USA from 2007 to 2011 … Every American Championship has ended with Houston on the podium as the lone season in the conference without a win, Houston's first in The American in 2013, still saw the Cougars finish third … Individually, Houston won eight championships at the meet … On the women's side , Samiyah Samuels won the long jump with a bound of 20-3.0 (6.17m), while Brianne Bethel in the 60-meter dash in 7.31 … On the men's side, Elijah Hall won both the 60- and 200-meter dash, running 6.67 and 20.78, respectively … Kahmari Montgomery won the 400-meter dash in 45.53 … Amere Lattin won the 60-meter hurdles in 7.90 … Nathaniel Mechler totaled 5,703 points to take the heptathlon … Houston also won the 4x400-meter relay, breaking The American Championship meet record with a time of 3:10.03 … For complete results, click here.
