Houston Announces Schedule Changes

HOUSTON â€" Due to the threat of inclement weather in the Houston area over the weekend, the Houston Cougar Women's Tennis team has announced that its match against Southern will be moved to Friday, Feb. 2 at 3 p.m., while Houston's match against Prairie View A&M has been postponed until April 8, and will now be played as a doubleheader with the Panthers.
The Cougars were originally scheduled to meet Southern and Prairie View A&M as part of a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 3. A time for the doubleheader against Prairie View on April 8 will be announced at a later date.
ABOUT HOUSTON
The Cougars are off to a strong start to the 2018 season and hold a 4-0 record throughout spring play. Houston most recently swept a pair of matches, defeating Sam Houston State and Incarnate Word in doubleheader action, winning each match 6-1.
Four different student-athletes lead the Cougars in wins thus far throughout the spring season. Sophomores Tsveta Dimitrova, Lauren Alter, and Constandena Nicolaou as well as senior Sveva Mazzari, have each posted 4-0 starts in dual play, while senior Alison Mills has collected three wins.
On the doubles court, Mazzari and Dimitrova have played to a perfect 3-0 record at the No. 1 position this spring, while Alter and Mills have combined for a pair of victories.
ABOUT THE JAGUARS
Southern enters Friday's match with a 0-2 record after falling 4-0 at LSU in their season opener on Jan. 20, and again 4-0 to Louisiana on Jan. 31.
The Jaguars are a young squad with just one senior on the roster, and the team is led at the No. 1 singles position by sophomore Stephanie Mbaya.
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
The Cougars hit the road for the first time during the spring season for a pair of matches in Tucson, Ariz. Houston faces Nevada in a neutral site match on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m., before meeting Arizona at noon the following day.
