Schedule features 25 games against 2018 NCAA Tournament teams
HOUSTON – Highlighted by 36 contests inside the Cougar Softball Stadium, the University of Houston Softball program and head coach Kristin Vesely announced the Cougars' 56-game schedule for the 2019 season on Monday.
"The schedule we built for this year really puts us in a position to prepare us for another run in the NCAA Tournament," Vesely said. "I think the teams we'll be hosting inside our own stadium, as well as where we'll be traveling to, is a testament to how far our program has come."
"We want to go up against some of the best teams in the country, and we did just that with the schedule we put together for this season. Our program has earned to opportunity to be seen on a national stage, and we're excited for that."
Houston opens up its season at home for the second time in three years, when the Cougars welcome Kentucky, Oklahoma State, Illinois and Sam Houston State for the Houston Invitational across Feb. 8-10. Kentucky and Oklahoma State are two of the 13 teams that Houston will face this year that competed in the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

Houston plays host to its first midweek game on Feb. 27, when the Cougars play Texas A&M, which was a Super Regional participant in last year's NCAA Tournament.
The Cougars host their fourth and final nonconference tournament of the season from March 1-3, as DePaul, Texas Southern and Texas State come to the Houston campus for the Red & White Showcase. Houston then begins a 10-game road swing, starting with a trip to Riverside, Calif., for the Highlander Classic, where the Cougars will face UC Riverside, San Diego and Nebraska-Omaha, spanning from March 8-10.
From there, Houston continues its road trip with a visit to Cal State Fullerton on March 12. Houston rounds out its preconference slate of games with a midweek doubleheader at Baylor on March 19.
