D’Eriq King Named Davey O’Brien Award Semifinalist

Junior quarterback leads the nation with 254 point responsible for
HOUSTON – Houston quarterback D'Eriq King was named a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Award, presented annually to the nation's best quarterback, the Davey O'Brien Foundation announced Wednesday morning.
King is one of 16 semifinalists for the award. He is one of two quarterbacks from The American Athletic Conference on the list and one of two quarterbacks from the state of Texas.
Wednesday's announcement is the second national award's semifinalist list for King who was named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award last week.

After nine games of action, King leads the nation in points responsible for with 254, is No. 4 nationally with 30 passing touchdowns, No. 4 with a pass efficiency rating of 171.0, No. 6 in total offense with 338.3 yards per game, No. 7 with 12 rushing touchdowns, and No. 12 with 2,578 passing yards.
With 42 touchdowns responsible for already this season, 30 passing and 12 rushing, King already ranks third on The American Athletic Conference's single-season chart, and is only three away from the record of 45, set by UCF's McKenzie Milton in 2017.
With 42 total touchdowns, King would tie for 29th with West Virginia and Michigan for total team touchdowns by himself.
His 12 rushing touchdowns leads all quarterbacks nationally, as he is the only quarterback in the nation with at least 20 passing touchdowns and eight rushing touchdowns. King also owns the nation's longest active rushing touchdown streak with scores on the ground in each of his last nine games.
The nine-game streak also includes multiple passing touchdowns in every game as the Houston quarterback is the only FBS player in over 20 years to have at least two passing scores and one rushing score in at least nine straight games.
He became one of only three players in the past decade (Marcus Mariota and Geno Smith) to record at least 25 touchdowns and no more than three turnovers in his team's first six games.
King leads a Houston offense that is fourth nationally in total offense with 548.2 yards per game while ranking fifth in scoring offense at 47.7 points per game.
The Davey O'Brien Fan Vote counts as five percent during each round of the voting process, and is combined with the results from the Foundation's national selection committee, which is comprised of journalists, broadcasters, commentators and former winners.
After clearing the first round totals, the Fan Vote at VoteOBrien.org will reopen today (Nov. 7) and remain open until noon (CT) on Sunday, Nov. 18, for the second round of balloting. Fans are invited to cast their vote for the nation's best college quarterback once daily per email address.
In conjunction with ESPN, the Davey O'Brien Foundation and its National Selection Committee will release the names of the three finalists on Monday, Nov. 19. The 2018 Davey O'Brien winner will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards Thursday, Dec. 6.
