SAN JOSE del CABO, Mexico – University of Houston Women's Golf freshman Hannah Screen drained seven birdies and fell only one stroke shy of tying a school record with a 66 during the Second Round at the Battle at the Beach on Saturday afternoon.
Competing in her first collegiate season, Screen joined Clemson's Ana Paula Valdes in a tie for second at 3-under 139 on the 6,202-yard, par-71 course at Club Campestre San Jose. Auburn's Kaleigh Telfer held the individual lead at 3-under 138 after shooting 69 in the second straight round.
Beginning her day off No. 10, Screen made a pair of pars but quickly moved under par with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 12-13. Following four straight pars, Screen capped her first nine with a birdie on the par-4 18th hole.
Although she endured a bogey on No. 1, she rebounded with birdies on four of her next five holes. The Berkhamsted, U.K. native made back-to back birdies on Nos. 2-3 and added another set on Nos. 5-6.
As a team, the Cougars moved into ninth with a two-day score of 599 after posting a total of 295 Saturday.
Senior All-American Leonie Harm joined Screen among the top-10 leaders after shooting an even-par 71 Saturday. The Gerlingen, Germany, native was tied for seventh at 143.
Senior Tatiana Pineda was tied for 61st at 157, while freshman Maria Jose Martinez was tied for 81st at 160. Senior Maddy Rayner was tied for 84th at 161.
Auburn held the team lead at 3-under 565 with Vanderbilt (575), Texas (581), Clemson (581) and Oklahoma (584) rounding out the top-five leaders.

FINAL-ROUND PAIRINGS
For Saturday's Second Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Virginia, Baylor and Tulane.
Screen will start the day for the Cougars off No. 9 beginning at 9:15 a.m. (CDT), Sunday with Harm (No. 10), Martinez (first group off No. 11), Pineda (second group off No. 11) and Rayner (No. 12) following.

Following the Battle at the Beach, the Cougars will enjoy their winter break before opening the spring season at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship at English Turn Country Club in New Orleans on Feb. 17-19.
