LAHAINA, Maui – University of Houston sophomore Andrew Gibson posted an even-par 71 to lead the Cougars in the Second Round of the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic on Saturday evening.

Gibson drained four birdies, including two in a three-hole stretch on Nos. 4-6 and was tied for 61^st at 144 on the 6,700-yard, par-71 Royal Ka'anapali Course at Ka'anapali Golf Club.

Junior Logan Young finished with a 72 on Saturday and was tied for 48^th at 143. Junior Zach Tracy joined Gibson in the group in a tie for 61^st at 144, while sophomore Alexander Frances was tied for 79^th at 146. Senior Matt Williams stood in 96^th at 149.

As a team, Houston stood in 14^th with a score of 575. No, 26 California held the second-day lead at 541 with No. 27 North Florida (544), No. 16 Georgia (550), No. 34 South Carolina (550) and No. 39 West Virginia (551) rounding out the top-five leaders.

Competing on the 6,700-yard, par-71 Royal Ka'anapali Course at Ka'anapali Golf Club, the Houston trio was tied for 59^th. Tracy led the Cougars with four birdies, including back-to-back efforts on Nos. 8-9, while Frances added three birdies apiece.

Individually, North Florida's Andrew Alligood stood atop the leaderboard at 132 after posting a 63 Saturday. Matthew Sharpstene (West Virginia), Quade Cummings (Oklahoma), Spencer Ralston and No. 87 Sebastian Crampton (California) were tied for second at 133.

PAIRINGS
For Sunday's Final Round, Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from Wyoming, Washington and Hawai'i beginning at 1 p.m. (CST).

Young will begin the day for the Cougars in the first group off No. 10 with Tracy (No. 11), Frances (first group off No. 12), Gibson (second group off No. 12) and Williams (No. 13 following).

UP NEXT
Following the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic, Houston will take a break for the winter holiday before opening the spring season when it plays host to its own All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston on Feb. 17-19, 2019.
