Senior transfer Brooke McDougald, freshman Karen Fredgaard to compete in 2019-20
Brooke McDougald and Karen Fredgaard became the newest members of the University of Houston Women's Golf program after recently signing National Letters of Intent, Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell announced Tuesday.

ABOUT BROOKE McDOUGALD
After earning her bachelor's degree in communications studies from TCU in 2018, McDougald will compete for one year with the Cougars while working on her master's degree in sports administration in 2019-20.
In 2017-18, she competed in nine tournaments and posted a 76.4 scoring average. McDougald, who is a native of The Woodlands, Texas, carded a career tournament-low of 221 at the Jim West Challenge after opening that tournament with a 72.
As a freshman in 2015-16, she played in four tournaments and earned a 14th-place finish in her first collegiate event at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational. Later that year, she was honored as the team's Most Improved Player and was recognized as the only freshman student-athlete at TCU to earn a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average that season.
Off the course, McDougald served for two years as TCU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative and was elected president of that group in 2018.
For two straight years (2017-18), she was named to the Big 12 All-Academic First Team and received NCAA Academic All-America honors. She also was named to the TCU Dean's List from 2015 to 2018.
"I recruited Brooke when she was in eighth grade, so I have seen a lot of her golf through the years. She brings maturity and leadership and is an all-around, great player," Chadwell said. "One of the strengths of her game is how composed she is on the course. I wish we could have her for four years, but I am grateful we will have her for the one."

ABOUT KAREN FREDGAARD
Fredgaard – whose last name is pronounced Fred-Guard – will compete as a freshman with the Cougars in 2019-20 and have four years of eligibility remaining.
An accomplished international player, she was selected to compete for the Danish National Girls' Team in 2016-17 and was elevated to the National Ladies Team for 2018-19.
Fredgaard, who is a native of Asserbo, Denmark, finished as the runner-up at the 2018 German Ladies Amateur Championship and finished 11th at the 2018 European Amateur Championship. She also finished fifth at the 2018 Ladies British Open Amateur Championship, which was won by current Houston senior Leonie Harm.
She was a member of the Danish team, which earned the bronze medal at the 2018 European Team Championship and finished third at the Italian Ladies Championship in 2017.
"Karen is another dynamic international player. She has played a really tough international schedule recently, and she has burst onto the scene," Chadwell said. "Karen had a phenomenal summer, and she will have an immediate impact on our program."
