SAN JOSE del CABO, Mexico – University of Houston Women's Golf senior Leonie Harm posted a 72 on Friday afternoon to lead the Cougars and tie for eighth following the first Round at the Battle at the Beach.
Harm started her day with a birdie on the eighth hole of the 6,202-yard, par-71 layout at Club Campestre San Jose and added back-to-back birdies on Nos. 17 and 18 to lead Houston.
Freshman Hannah Screen was tied for 12th with a 73, while Maria Jose Martinez was tied for 66th at 79. Seniors Tatiana Pineda and Maddy Rayner were tied for 74th at 80.
As a team, the Cougars were tied with Baylor for 10th with a score of 304. Auburn held the first-day lead at 287 to stand five strokes ahead of Texas. Mississippi State (294), TCU (298), Virginia (298), Vanderbilt (298), Tulane (298), Oklahoma (299) and Missouri (299) rounded out the top-nine leaders.
Auburn's Kaleigh Teller stood atop the individual leaderboard with a 69, while Hailee Cooper (Texas) and Manuela Lizarazu (Iowa) were tied for second at 70.

SECOND-ROUND PAIRINGS
For Saturday's Second Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Missouri, Baylor and Clemson
Harm will start the day for the Cougars off No. 9 beginning at 10 a.m. (CDT), Saturday with Screen (No. 10), Rayner (first group off No. 11), Martinez (second group off No. 11) and Pineda (No. 12) following.

Following the Battle at the Beach, the Cougars will enjoy their winter break before opening the spring season at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship at English Turn Country Club in New Orleans on Feb. 17-19.
