CARROLLTON, Texas – The University of Houston Men's Golf program posted a score of 303 and was tied for ninth following the First Round at the Maridoe Intercollegiate at Maridoe Golf Club on Saturday.
Juniors Logan Young and Zach Tracy each recorded 74s and were tied for 20th. Young led the Cougars with four birdies in the round, including back-to-back efforts on Nos. 12-13 while Tracy added three with consecutive birdies on Nos. 6-7.
Senior Matt Williams was tied for 46th at 77, while sophomore Alexander Frances was tied for 52nd with a 78. Junior George Gardner was tied for 61st with an 80.
Competing as an individual, sophomore Andrew Gibson was tied for 31st at 75.
Co-host North Texas finished with a score of 286 to stand one stroke ahead of SMU. Coastal Carolina (290), North Florida (291), Arkansas State (292), Texas A&M (293), UT Arlington (301) and Indiana (302) rounded out the top-eight leaders.
The Cougars joined UTSA at 303 with New Mexico (305), Tennessee (307), Boise State (311) and Rice (314) following.
On the individual side, Thomas Rosenmueller (North Texas), Paul Gonzalez (UT Arlington) and States Fort (Coastal Carolina) held the first-day lead with 68s. SMU's Ollie Osborne stood in fourth with a 69.
Teams will play 18 holes each day through Monday on the 7,017-yard, par-70 course.

SECOND ROUND on SUNDAY
The Second Round begins at 8:30 am., Sunday. Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from UT Arlington and Indiana, starting at 9:20 a.m.
Gardner begins the day for the Cougars at 9:20 a.m., with Frances (9:30 a.m.), Williams (9:40 a.m.), Tracy (9:50 a.m.) and Young (10 a.m.) following.
Gibson begins at 10:20 a.m., off No. 1.
UP NEXT
Following the Maridoe Intercollegiate, Houston returns to action when it tees off at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate on Oct. 22-23 at Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas.
From there, the Cougars close out the fall season at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic on the Royal Ka'anapali Course at Ka'anapali Golf Club in Lahaina, Maui, Hawai'i on Nov. 2-4.
Houston opens the spring season when it plays host to its own All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston on Feb. 17-19, 2019.
