HOUSTON 1, USF 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
A slow start from the Cougar offense gave USF the opportunity to quickly find themselves ahead 7-1. Houston managed to pull within five points at the 16-11 mark, but the deficit proved to be too much to overcome, as the Bulls came out on top of the first set 25-17.
Set 2
Houston battled with USF all the way to very end, as it took extra points to decide the second frame. After the Cougars crept up on the Bulls' advantage, Houston managed to tie the score at 12, thanks to a kill from sophomore outside hitter Silvia Pertens. From there, neither team found itself ahead by more than three points, as the Cougars strung together a 6-3 run to tie the score again at 24. Houston found itself in a pair of set-point opportunities, but was unable to seal the victory, with USF winning the set 29-27.
Set 3
After the Cougars grabbed an early two-point lead, Houston stretched the advantage to four, courtesy of a service ace from junior libero Katie Karbo, forcing a USF timeout. The Cougars never looked back from that point, riding that momentum all the way to their 25-19 set victory and forcing a fourth set.
Set 4
The final set began with the two teams neck and neck with each other, as the score was tied at five after the first 10 points. Once the Bulls went on a 7-3 run to claim a four-point advantage, the Cougars were forced to call a timeout. After the timeout, the Bulls compiled another 4-1 run, where they cruised to the 25-19 set victory to claim the 3-1 match win.
