Belovukovic, Tairyan Win to Wrap Fall Play

Cougars take two matches on River Oaks Invitational final day
HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Women's Tennis team wrapped up its 2018 fall schedule with a pair of singles wins on the final day of the River Oaks Invitational on Sunday at River Oaks Country Club.
Houston's first win of the day came from redshirt freshman Elena Tairyan, who defeated Natalia Nikolopoulou of North Carolina State in straight sets. Tairyan dropped just one game in the first set, winning 6-1 before claiming the second set 6-4 to seal the match.
Freshman Stephanie Belovukovic also won her match in straight sets, however Nicole Petchey of SMU was able to stretch each set into a tiebreaker. Belovukovic edged Petchey in the first set 7-6(4), and eventually won the second set 7-6(2) to take the victory.
Junior Constandena Nicolaou battled in three sets against Katherine Jakeway (SMU). After dropping the first set 6-4, Nicolaou rebounded to win the second set 6-3 before ultimately falling 6-1 in the decisive third set.
Sophomore Ndindi Ndunda lost her final match of the fall 6-2, 6-3 to Liz Norman (North Carolina State), however Ndunda finished fall action with the most wins for the Cougars at eight.
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
The Cougars return to action for the spring season on Saturday, Jan. 19 with a trip to meet Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. Houston opens its home spring slate the following day against Lamar at Winston Tennis Facility.
