SAN ANTONIO, Texas – University of Houston senior Maddy Rayner finished the rain-shortened Maryb S. Kauth Invitational with a score of 144 to earn a career-best fourth-place finish on Tuesday afternoon at TPC San Antonio.
Battling cooler temperatures, wind and rain, Rayner drained three birdies in the Final Round, including back-to-back efforts on Nos. 15-16, while competing as an individual at the tournament.
As a team, the Cougars finished fourth with a score of 599 on the 6,233-yard, par-72 AT&T Canyons Course. This was the second straight shortened tournament in which Houston competed. The season-opening Mason Rudolph Championships in Franklin Tenn., on Sept. 21-23 also was reduced to 36 holes due to rain.
TCU earned the team title with a score of 581. Marshall finished second at 588 with Tennessee in third at 589. UTSA (604), North Texas (605), Oral Roberts (611), UAB (624) and UIW (642) rounded out the field.
Freshman Hannah Screen posted the Cougars' low round of the day with a 73, thanks to a team-high four birdies, including consecutive birdies on Nos. 10-11. The Berkhamsted, U.K. native finished seventh at 146 for the first top-10 finish of her young career.
Senior All-American Leonie Harm tied for 14th at 150. The Gerlingen, Germany, native recorded the 24th top-20 finish of her career, extending her school record.
Junior Amanda Elich tied for 20th at 152, while senior Yuka Kajiki tied for 34th at 155. Making her collegiate debut, Maria Jose Martinez tied for 38th at 157.
Marshall teammates Shelby Brauckmuller and Kerri Parks and TCU's Sabrina Iqbal shared medalist honors at 1-under 143. Rayner joined TCU's Annika Clark in a tie for fourth at 144.
