Deontay Anderson Joins Houston

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Football program added a fourth member of the 2016 ESPN 300 list to the #HTownTakeover Wednesday with the addition of defensive back Deontay Anderson, a transfer from Ole Miss.
Rated the No. 1 safety in the nation in 2016 by ESPN, Anderson is the fourth member from the 2016 ESPN 300 list to become a member of the Houston program, joining 2017 Outland Trophy winner Ed Oliver, his high school teammate and current Houston quarterback D'Eriq King, and defensive end Isaiah Chambers, who will be eligible this season after sitting out the 2017 season after transferring from TCU.

Anderson played in all 12 games his first season at Ole Miss, earning 2016 Freshman All-SEC second team honors. The Houston native had 32 tackles on the year, including 1.5 tackles for loss, while recording an interception he returned eight yards to seal the Rebels' come-from-behind win over then-No. 8 Texas A&M.
Coming out of Manvel High School, Anderson was an Under Armour All-American and was rated the nation's No. 41 overall player by ESPN. He was ranked the No. 2 player in the state of Texas by Scout after totaling 40 tackles his senior season.
A first team All-State selection by USA Today and a second team selection by the Associated Press, Anderson was coached by head coach Kirk Martin. A noted speedster on the field, Anderson won the Texas 6A state title in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.99 his junior year.
He is the son of Michael and Hava Anderson, and his uncle Greg "Cadillac" Anderson who was a part of Phi Slama Jama at Houston before being drafted in the first round of the 1987 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs.
