Adams, who has seen action in 37 career games with 17 starts, led Houston in 2016 with 82 total tackles and 57 solo tackles with a team-best three double-digit tackle games. The hard-hitting linebacker also had two forced fumbles on the season while returning one fumble recovery for 13 yards. Adams also had 7.5 tackles for loss in 2016, two of which were sacks.
Birden joined the Houston program in 2016 and after starting the season at defensive back, switched to running back and started five games while finishing third on the team in rushing yards with 289 yards. The Houston native led the Cougars with six rushing touchdowns while also recovering two fumbles, one which he stripped while on defense, and another on the opening kickoff of Houston's 36-10 win over No. 3 Louisville.
Davis has appeared in 26 games in his first two seasons with the program, starting 12 of 13 games in 2016. He finished fifth on the team in tackles last season with 65 and was third among defensive backs in The American Athletic Conference with seven tackles for loss. He also added five pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Dunbar had 53 receptions for 692 yards and five touchdowns in 2016. The Metairie, La., native has 27 career starts with action in 39 career games and currently ranks 30th on the Houston career receptions chart with 104 receptions.
Dunbar and classmate Linell Bonner make up the top returning pass-catching duo in The American with 151 receptions and the second-best duo nationally. The two trail only Middle Tennessee State's Richie James and Ty Lee who combined for 168 receptions in 2016.
